The 28th movie in the Detective Conan (Case Closed) series, Meitantei Conan: Sekigan no Flashback (Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback), remained at the top of the box office during its third weekend of release. From Friday through Sunday, the movie brought in 1,422,490,200 yen (about US$9.84 million) from the sale of 969,000 tickets. Including ticket sales through Tuesday (Monday and Tuesday were Japanese holidays), the movie has sold 7.26 million tickets, bringing its total sales to 10.4 billion yen, or around US$69.52 million.
At the Japanese box office, the movie debuted at number one. In its first three days, the movie sold 2,314,690 tickets, setting a new opening-weekend record for the franchise, and made 3,438,626,700 yen (about US$24.15 million).
In addition to ordinary screenings, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback is available in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema. It debuted in Japan on April 18. The movie set a new franchise record when it debuted in 522 Japanese cinemas. “Twilight!!!” is the theme song, performed by King Gnu.
A previous image showed Conan riding a snowboard, and the movie is set in the snowy mountains of Nagano prefecture. Both Kogoro, a significant character whose last significant involvement in a motion picture was back in the ninth film Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths in 2005, and Yamato, an inspector in Nagano with a left eye injury, feature in the film. The movie also features Yui and Taka’aki, both of whom are from Nagano.
Katsuya Shigehara (unit director of Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine) directed the film. Takeharu Sakurai (various Detective Conan movies) wrote the script.
Dōbutsu Tabekko On its first weekend of release, THE MOVIE, which is based on the Tabekko Dōbutsu brand of animal-shaped butter biscuits, came in at number five. In its first four days, the movie made 176,110,370 yen, or around US$1.22 million.
In Japan, the movie debuted on Thursday, May 1.
Tetsuhiro Ikeda (FLCL: Grunge, Inzai Aru Aru Monogatari) authored the screenplay, while Hitoshi Takekiyo (After School Midnighters, FLCL: Grunge) directed the movie at Marza Animation Planet. The soundtrack for TBS TV was created by Gin Hashiba (Magical Destroyers). Glovision’s sound director was Chikako Yokota. Riko Koarai was the creative producer, Masato Ui was the animation producer, Yōsuke Sakai was the CG supervisor, Kiyoaki Kamei was the art director, and Hiroki Takahashi was the line producer. The movie’s theme song, “Would You Like One?” was performed by Travis Japan.
